2.1  Product design

This unit is a manual starter that is well suited for rugged applications such as

building sites. Design features include a robust plastic casing and ON and OFF

buttons inset into the front, for manually starting and stopping the pump.
Automatic operation of the pump, for example with level control equipment, is

not possible.

Maximum number of starts

The starter includes a start capacitor in order to increase the starting torque

during start-up. The start capacitor is not designed for many repeated start

cycles in a short time. Always observe the limitations described under

Commissioning.

Pumps

These starters have been developed for use with single-phase capacitor motor

with one main winding and one auxiliary winding. The auxiliary winding is

connected in series with a running capacitor. At the instant of starting, a starting

capacitor supplements the running capacitor to provide extra starting torque.
Every variant of the starter is tested for the respective pump, so that the

capacitors and the starting relay are matched to the rating and voltage of the

pump. A starter must not be transferred and used on two different pumps, even

if they have similar electrical data.

Overload protection

The built-in motor protection switch, which has a thermal tripping function,

protects both the pump and its cable against overload. If the pump is

overloaded, then it is stopped and remains blocked until it is reset manually.

Current ranges

The starter is available for all current ranges from 1.0 - 16 A, and can be

supplied in two versions:

• Type A for pumps without built-in thermal contacts
• Type B for pumps with built-in thermal contacts

Cable connections

The starters are fully equipped with terminal blocks and cable glands for all

cable connections.
