5 Vehicle Process Routes
Once AutoRead has been installed and configured to link to your particular billing package,
the day-to-day procedures of loading the route onto a disk for the Vehicle-RadioRead
software and unloading the meter reads can be performed. The following section details
how to perform these day-to-day procedures.
Load Routes for the Vehicle Read System
When using the Sensus Vehicle Read system, a USB flash drive must be loaded from the
AutoRead PC for the VXU or VGB laptop. The procedure for loading a USB flash drive is
very similar to loading a HHD. The first step in loading a drive will always be done in the
specific billing program that you use. This first step is to create a route file containing the
meters that need to be read.
Listed below are the basic steps for loading a USB drive for the meter reader.

1. Create a route file. The first step in the process of loading a drive is to create a route file
in the billing program. A route contains a list of meters to be read. If the billing program
resides on a mainframe computer, there will also be a process required to transfer
the file from the mainframe computer to the PC. These steps vary depending on your
particular billing software, so please contact your billing system's technical support for
the appropriate steps.
2. Open the AutoRead Program. After the route file is created, open the AutoRead
application by double clicking on the AutoRead icon on the Windows desktop. In most
cases, AutoRead will open directly to the Process Routes screen. This is the screen
where most, if not all, of the daily procedures are performed. If AutoRead is not set to
automatically start there, click once on
View
in the upper left corner, and use the drop-
down menu to select
Routes
, and then click
Process
.
