The
VX-8R
’s keypad allows easy DTMF dialing for Autopatch, repeater control, or Internet-
link access purposes. Besides numerical digits [
0
] through [
9
], the keypad includes the
[
¿
] and [
#
] digits, plus the [
A
], [
B
], [
C
], and [
D
] tones often used for repeater control.

ENERATION
You can generate DTMF tones during transmission manually.
1. Press the
PTT
switch to begin transmission.
2. While transmitting, press the desired numbers on the keypad.
3. When you have sent all the digits desired, release the
PTT
key.
DTMF A
UTODIALER
Nine DTMF Autodial memories are provided, allowing you to store telephone numbers
for autopatch use. You can also store short autopatch or Internet-link access code streams
to avoid having to send them manually.
Here is the DTMF Autodial storage procedure
:
1. Press and hold the
key for one second to enter the Set Mode.
2. Rotate the

knob to select Set Mode Item

key briefly to enable adjustment of this Set
Mode Item.

key briefly to begin DTMF Memory entry
into the selected register.
6. Press and hold in the
key for two seconds to clear the
previously-stored data, if desired.
7. Rotate the

knob to select the first digit of the DTMF

” to store a “Pause”, if needed.
8. Press the
key to move to the next character.
9. Repeats steps 7 and 8 to program the remaining the DTMF
string.
10. Press and hold in the
key for two seconds to delete the
previously-stored data after the cursor.
11. If you make a mistake, press the
key to back-space the
cursor, re-enter the correct number.
12. Press the
PTT
switch briefly to save the new setting and
exit to normal operation. To store other numbers, repeat this
process, using a different DTMF memory register.
