Pre-operation checks

Post-launch checks
Perform the post-launch checks in the pre-op-
eration checklist while the boat is in the water
and the engine is running.
Engine shut-off switch check
Check the engine shut-off switch for proper
operation.
(1) Start the engine. (See page 89 for infor-
mation on starting the engine.)
(2) Pull the engine shut-off cord (lanyard) to
remove the clip from the engine shut-off
switch to make sure that the engine stops
immediately.
(3) Make sure that the engine cannot be
started with the clip removed from the en-
gine shut-off switch.

Cooling water pilot outlet check
Check that water comes out from the pilot out-
let while the engine is running in the water. If
water is not circulating, something may be
clogging the intake grate. Refer to “Jet pump
clean-out procedure” on page 120.
TIP:
It may take up to 20 seconds for water to
reach the pilot outlet when first launching the
boat. The amount and force of the exiting wa-
ter will vary with engine speed.
NOTICE
A continuous flow of water from the pilot
outlet shows that water is flowing through
the engine cooling water passages. If wa-
ter is not flowing out of the pilot outlet dur-
ing operation, do not continue to run the
engine. Overheating and serious damage
could occur. See “Engine overheat warn-
ing system” on page 42 for more informa-
tion.
Fuel level check
Select the fuel level display of the multi-func-
tion tachometer. (See page 35 for information
on selecting the fuel level display.)
