Fitness Modes—Walk Fitness and Jog Fitness
The Fitness modes provide the most appropriate music playback for optimal
aerobic exercise. In that sense, they are similar to the Free Workout mode.
However, they go much further, monitoring your heart rate and providing
sophisticated ways of changing the music to give you a perfectly programmed,
optimal aerobic workout—that matches your physical condition and the
intensity of your exercise.
The built-in pulse sensor detects your heart rate as you exercise. Continuously
and in real time, the BF-1 calculates the optimal exercise pace for you, given
your physical condition—and then automatically changes the music to match
your pace and heart rate. If your exercise is too strenuous and your heart rate is
too high (higher than optimal), the BF-1 plays slower tempo music. Likewise, if
your exercise is too easy and relaxed to provide adequate exercise benefits,
the BF-1 plays faster music. This ensures that you get the best possible
exercise—not too little, and not too much.
Each Fitness mode also features automatically programmed ‘warming up’ and
‘cooling down’ segments that effectively structure your exercise sessions and
help you avoid unnatural stress and fatigue.
Since the Fitness modes monitor your heart rate, you will need to properly
attach the pulse sensor. (For instructions, see
.) You will also need to
make sure other settings have been made, such as your actual age and resting
heart rate (
There are two Fitness modes: Walk Fitness and Jog Fitness. Essentially, they
function and operate exactly the same, except that Walk Fitness is specifically
programmed for walking, while Jog Fitness is designed for the more strenuous
and intense exercise you get while jogging. (However, slow tempo songs
matched for walking may sometimes be played if your heart rate goes higher
than optimal condition.)
