Playing the Pads
Basic Guide
Cymbals
Strike different sections of the drum pad in the same way you would play an acoustic cymbal. With the ride cymbal (the pad
with position sensor connected to the
i
RIDE jack), you can create natural tonal changes according to the location within
the Zone.
Bow shots
Striking the main surface of the cymbal pad (i.e., the bow section located between the
cup and edge) produces a bow shot sound.
With the ride cymbal, strike the front side of the bow section near the Yamaha logo, you
can create natural tonal changes according to the location within the Zone.

Edge shots
Striking the front side on the outer edge of the cymbal pad produces an edge shot
sound.

Bell shots
Striking the bell (cup) produces a bell shot sound.

Choking
Grabbing the front side on the outer edge of a cymbal pad immediately after striking it
will mute the sound being produced.

Crash cymbal pad included in the DTX6K-X kit:
Grasp the sensor area to choke sounds.
