Connect the other end of the red (+)
jumper cable to the positive (+) terminal
of the booster battery.
6.
Connect the black (–) jumper cable to the
negative (–) terminal of the booster bat-
tery.
7.
Pull the black (–) connecting lead cover
to expose the terminal through the slit in
the cover, and then connect the black (–)
jumper cable to the black (–) connecting
lead.
8.
Start the engine.
9.
Disconnect the black (–) jumper cable
from the black (–) connecting lead, and
then pull the cover completely over the
lead terminal.
10. Disconnect the black (–) jumper cable
from the negative (–) terminal of the bat-
tery used to jump-start the engine.
11. Disconnect the red (+) jumper cable from
the positive (+) terminal of the battery
used to jump-start the engine.
12. Disconnect the red (+) jumper cable from
the red (+) connecting lead, and then pull
the cover completely over the lead termi-
nal.
13. Install the red (+) connecting lead into the
lead holder.
14. Install the right side cover and the shroud
(RS90GT / RS90LTGT / RST90GT), or
close the shroud (RST90).
TIP
Make sure that both the red (+) connecting
lead and the black (–) connecting lead are
seated securely in the lead holders.
Electric starter does not operate or
operates slowly

Engine stop switch is pushed in: Pull it out.
●
Faulty wire connections: Check connec-
tions or ask a Yamaha dealer to check.
●
Discharged battery: Charge battery or see
“Discharged battery” above.
●
Seized engine: Seizure is caused by poor
lubrication, inadequate fuel, or an air leak.
Ask a Yamaha dealer to check.
●
RST90: “Hydrostatic lock” occurs when fuel
has filled cylinders during transportation of
vehicle: Remove spark plugs and turn en-
gine over several times with ignition off to
expel excess fuel. Ask a Yamaha dealer to
check.
