3. Select forward (D) using the drive select
lever (the transmission gear display
should show “1”).
4. Release the brake pedal and press the
accelerator pedal gradually.
5. When vehicle speed has sufficiently in-
creased, use the shift paddle “
” to shift
into 2nd gear.
6. Follow the same procedure when shifting
to the next higher gear.
To start out in 2nd gear
When starting out in low-traction conditions
(ie. Mud, snow, etc.), 2nd gear may be used
instead.
1. Stop the vehicle with the brake pedal
pressed.
2. Select forward (D) using the drive select
lever (transmission gear display should
show “1”).
3. You can shift up from 1st gear to 2nd
gear by holding the “
” shift paddle until
the transmission gear display shows “2”.
TIP
When high clutch temperature is detected,
starting out in 2nd gear (shifting into 2nd gear
while the vehicle is stopped) is disabled and
the the transmission will shift into 1st gear.
NOTICE
ECB04050
Do not start out in 2nd gear frequently
without allowing the clutch to cool down.
Otherwise the clutch system may be dam-
aged.
To decelerate
When slowing down, release the accelerator
pedal and apply the brake pedal smoothly. As
you slow down, shift to a lower gear. Be sure
that the engine has sufficiently slowed before
engaging a lower gear. Improper use of the
brake pedal or shift paddles can cause the
tires to lose traction, reducing control and in-
creasing the possibility of an accident.
