CHARGE AIR COOLER
The temperature of compressed air after the turbocharger can
reach 150-180
o
С
. The charge air cooler serves to reduce the
temperature of the air entering the cylinders to the value not exceeding
60
o
С
and to increase its density. This has a positive effect on the
engine thermal stresses and results in lower amounts of harmful
substances contained in the exhaust gases.
The heat released to the environment by the air-to-air type
cooler of the YMZ-536 engine can reach the value up to 57 kW.
The charge air cooler is not part of the engine supply kit and is
mounted in the vehicle upstream the cooling system radiator.
During the engine operation attention should be paid to
leakproofness of the pipes connecting the charge air cooler to the
engine.
EXHAUST GAS
RECIRCULATION SYSTEM
The engines have an exhaust gas recirculation system. Exhaust
gases have a high heat capacity and when brought back to the cylinder
allow to lower the maximum combustion temperature thus creating
unfavourable conditions for nitrogen oxides formation.
Up to 20% of exhaust gases are sent back to the cylinders. The
EGR flow is regulated automatically from the ECU by means of a
control valve with a pneumatic and electric drive.
To increase the heat capacity, the gases are cooled down in the
heat exchanger to the temperature of 100–240
o
С
, depending on the
engine operation mode.
The heat exchanger is a single-piece unit located on the water
pipe, and some amount of the cooling liquid from this pipe goes to the
heat exchanger. The liquid goes out of the heat exchanger via the
external pipe.
