In addition, perform the following tests before switching on an explosion-pro-
tected fan:

Check the operating conditions / process parameters (see

Intended use

). Above all,

it is essential to ensure that the maximum permitted values for speed, suction and
ambient temperature (see rating plate) are not exceeded under any circumstances
and at any time.

Check for the correct electrical connection of the drive motor (supply voltage, ground-
ing, overload safeguard; during converter operation: thermal protection / thermistor
connection).

Check for foreign bodies in the air conduction area: make sure that no loose parts are
in the fan or in the intake area of the fan.

Verify that the gap dimension check has been performed successfully (see

Protect-

ing against contact between rotating and stationary parts

). The impeller must not

scrape on stationary housing parts (=> ignition sparks).

The ER..C plug fan may only be installed with appropriate structure-borne noise
decoupling (expansion joints, vibration dampers) and with no distortion or tension.
Non-conductive rubber dampers may also be used as vibration dampers for the
ER..C series (available as accessories), as the maximum projected area of the largest
rubber damper (75 x 50 mm) is 3750 mm

2

and is thus smaller than the permitted

(10000 mm

2

). The rubber dampers are

tted with 2 earthed metal plates. Non-

conductive layers can only become charged by accumulations of dust. Regular
cleaning is therefore required. Operation in areas with a risk of dust explosion is not
permitted. Due to signi

cantly higher insulation ef

ciency, the use of spring steel

insulators is recommended.

During erection / start-up operation, the ambient temperature, air humidity, environ-
mental contamination, and corrosion through the surrounding atmosphere must be
taken into consideration.

Check for correct assembly of all attachments and accessories. Checking the bearing
vibrations: The vibration velocities must be measured at the motor bearing plates
during normal operation (nominal speed with mains operation) or at the maximum
permitted speed (for inverter operation). As set out in ISO 14694, application category
BV-3 the following limits [mm/s r.m.s.] apply
