Portable Drying Unit (PDU)
Operating Instructions
- 5 -
To operate Portable Drying Unit from external power supply:
1.
Plug the two-pin power cable into the corresponding socket on the front of the PDU.
2.
Then connect the power cable to an external power source as follows:
Option 1 - AC power
Attach the plugged-in power cable to the AC power supply unit. Then connect the power supply
unit to AC power using the IEC cable provided.
Option 2 - 12 volt vehicle power outlet
Attach the plugged in power cable to the 12 volt power outlet via the 12 volt plug end of the power
cable.
Charging the Battery
1.
Remove battery from PDU, connect the charger directly to the battery lead. As stated on the charg-
er, if the LED is red the battery is charging and if the LED is blue the battery is already charged.
2.
The PDU once fully charged will operate for approximately 6 hours before requiring a recharge or
battery swap.
3.
Minimise the time the lid of the PDU is left open to reduce battery usage.
Changing the Pre-Set Temperature
The temperature of the PDU is normally pre-set to 40⁰C in the factory. This temperature was chosen to
be slightly above the site’s highest ambient temperatures to ensure drying of the sample, but not so high
as to volatilise components of the TPH, more than would have normally occurred at the site. If the oper-
ator chooses to change the temperature of the PDU, he/she should firstly consider the trade-off between
drying of moisture and volatilisation of TPH.
1.
Unscrew the protective clear plastic cover to access the temperature display.
2.
Press SET button and the red LED in the bottom left of the display should blink.
3.
Then press up or down arrows to change to the desired temperature. Note that the temperature
changes in one degree increments and that you may have to wait up to a second between each
one degree temperature change.
4.
Press the SET key to save the desired temperature. The red LED in the bottom left of the display
should extinguish. The display will now show the temperature inside the drying box.
5.
Place the protective clear plastic cover back on the temperature display and fasten.
