Work on electrical components or equipment may only be carried out by a qualified electrician or under the
guidance and supervision of a qualified electrician.
Put on your personal protective equipment before working on the machine.
11.3
General safety instructions
To avoid malfunctions, damage and health impairments when working with the machine, the following
points must be observed in addition to the general rules for safe working:
•
Check the machine for completeness and function before starting. Only use the machine if the
separating and other non-separating protective devices required for machining have are fitted.
•
Make sure that the guards are in good working order and properly maintained.
•
Ensure sufficient lighting conditions at the workplace to avoid stroboscopic effects.
•
Ensure a clean working environment.
•
Only use tools that are in perfect condition and free of cracks and other defects (e.g. defor-
mations).
•
Remove tool keys and other setting tools before switching on the machine.
•
Check the machine's connections for strength before each use.
•
Never leave the running machine unattended. Switch off the machine before leaving the work-
ing area and secure it against unintentional or unauthorized restarting.
•
The machine may only be operated, maintained or repaired by persons who are familiar and
who have been informed about the dangers arising from this work.
•
Ensure that unauthorized persons keep a safety distance from the machine and keep children
away from the machine.
•
Always work with care and the necessary caution and never use excessive force.
•
Do not overload the machine!
•
Wear close fitting protective work clothing and suitable protective equipment (Personal Pro-
tective Equipment) (eye protection, ear protection, sturdy work gloves and safety-shoes).
•
Never wear loose jewellery, loose clothing or accessories (e.g. tie, scarf).
•
Do not work on the machine if you are tired, not concentrated or under the influence of medi-
cation, alcohol or drugs!
•
Do not use the machine in areas where vapours of paints, solvents or flammable liquids repre-
sent a potential danger (danger of fire or explosion!).
•
Shut down the machine and disconnect it from the power supply, before adjustment, change-
over, cleaning, maintenance or repair work, etc. Before starting work on the machine, wait until
all tools or machine parts have come to a complete standstill and secure the machine against
unintentional restart.
11.4
Special safety instructions for this machine
•
Do not start operating the machine until you have ensured that there are no other people or
animals within the working area of 4.5 m radius.
•
Never allow children to operate the machine.
•
Hold the machine as close to the body as possible to obtain optimum body balance.
•
Always hold the machine with both hands at the front and rear handles.
•
Be especially careful on slippery surfaces: when wet, snowy, icy, on slopes or uneven terrain.
•
Never operate the machine while standing on ladders.
•
Always ensure to have a safe footing, especially on steps.
•
When cutting, the engine should always face away from the hedge.
•
Carefully check the working area and the hedge to avoid damaging the blades by colliding with
hidden objects:
o
Remove stones, gravel, pieces of metal and other solid objects.
o
Be particularly attentive when cutting hedges next to or along wire fences.
•
When cutting high hedges, be very careful and check the opposite side before starting to work.
•
Always be aware of possible hazards you may not recognise due to the noise produced by the
machine.
•
Be aware of overhead power lines.
•
Always have the blade bar in view: Do not cut any areas of the hedge which are not clearly visible.
