Chapter 9 IPv6 Tunnel Configuration
in another subnet or another user network. Another condition is
the prefix of the next destination address contains the special 6to4
TLA value 2002::/16.
IPv4 source address is contained in the 6to4 prefix of the request-
ing site, that is, the IPv4 address of the network external interface
of the 6to4 router is contained in the 6to4 prefix of the IPv6 packet.
At the same time, the IPv4 address of the receiving site becomes
the 6to4 prefix of destination address of the next IPv6 sending
packet.
When the 6to4 router of the receiving site receives an IPv4 packet
and determines that it is the Type 41 IPv4 protocol, it will imple-
ment the IPv4 security inspection, remove the header and conduct
local transmission with the IPv6 source packet.
The transmission rule mentioned above is the unique revision to
IPv6 transmission rule, because the receiving rule of the primary
IPv6 translation mechanism has been determined already.
By
adding proper number of 6to4 prefixes into DNS, all sites can
cooperate with each other without manual tunnel configuration.
IPv6/IPv4 Dual Stack Technology
During the IPv6 upgrading process, there are some applications
have been upgraded but other applications have not been up-
graded on network node. The upgraded applications use IPv6 pro-
tocol stack, and un-upgraded applications use IPv4 protocol stack.
To make them coexist, IPv6/IPv4 dual stack technology is used.
The upgraded applications can either adopt IPv4 IPv4 protocol
stack, and can adopt IPv6 protocol stack.
shows the protocol structure of the IPv6/IPv4 dual stack.

Network Address Translation
Technology
Network Address Translation (
) technology regards IPv4 ad-
dresses and IPv6 addresses as internal addresses and global ad-
dresses respectively, and vice versa.
When an internal IPv4 host communicates with an external IPv6
host, it will translate the IPv4 address (equivalent to the internal
address) to the IPv6 address (equivalent to the global address)
