9.9 MAC Based VLAN
The MAC- based VLAN feat ur e assigns incom ing unt agged packet s t o a VLAN and classifies t he
t raffic based on t he source MAC addr ess of t he packet . When unt agged packet s ar r ive at t he sw it ch,
t he sour ce MAC addr ess of t he packet is looked up in a MAC t o VLAN m apping t able. I f an ent r y is
found, t he cor r esponding VLAN I D is assigned t o t he packet . The assigned VLAN I D is ver ified
against t he VLAN t able. I f t he VLAN is valid, ingr ess pr ocessing on t he packet cont inues; ot her w ise,
t he packet is dr opped.
This feat ur e allows user s t o change por t s wit hout having t o r econfigur e t he VLAN. You can assign
pr ior it y t o t he MAC- based VLAN and define a MAC t o VLAN m apping t able by ent er ing a specified

Select t he pr ior it y level of t he Voice VLAN fr om 0 t o 7. Default set t ing is 5.The higher
t he num er ic value you assign, t he higher t he pr ior it y for t his Voice VLAN.
Apply
Click Apply t o save your changes t o t he Sw it ch’s run- t im e m em ory. The Sw it ch loses
t hese changes if it is t ur ned off or loses pow er, so use t he Sa ve link on t he t op
nav igat ion panel t o save your changes t o t he non- volat ile m em or y w hen you ar e
done configur ing.

Type t he I P Phone m anufact ur er ’s OUI MAC addr ess. The fir st t hr ee byes is t he
m anufact ur er ident ifier, t he last t hr ee byt es is a unique st at ion I D.
OUI m ask
Ty pe t he I P Phone m anufact ur er 's OUI m ask addr ess.
Descript ion
Ty pe an descr ipt ion up t o 32 charact ers for t he Voice VLAN dev ice. For ex am ple:
