8.6 IP Setup
Use t he I P Se t u p scr een t o configur e t he Sw it ch I P addr ess, default gat eway device, and t he
m anagem ent VLAN I D. The default gat eway specifies t he I P addr ess of t he default gat eway ( next
hop) for out going t raffic.
Join Tim er
Join Tim er set s t he durat ion of t he Join Period t im er for GVRP in m illiseconds. Each por t has
a Join Pe r iod t im er. The allow ed Join Tim e range is bet w een 100 and 65535 m illiseconds;
t he default is 200 m illiseconds. See t he chapt er on VLAN set up for m or e back gr ound
infor m at ion.
Leave Tim er
Leave Tim e set s t he durat ion of t he Le a v e Pe r iod t im er for GVRP in m illiseconds. Each por t
has a single Le a ve Pe r iod t im er. Leave Tim e m ust be t w o t im es lar ger t han Join Tim e r ;
t he default is 600 m illiseconds.
Leave All Tim er
Leave All Tim er set s t he durat ion of t he Leave All Per iod t im er for GVRP in m illiseconds.
Each por t has a single Leave All Per iod t im er. Leave All Tim er m ust be lar ger t han Leave
Tim er.
Pr ior it y Queue Assignm ent
I EEE 802.1p defines up t o eight separat e t raffic t ypes by inser t ing a t ag int o a MAC- layer fram e t hat cont ains
bit s t o define class of ser v ice. Fram es w it hout an ex plicit prior it y t ag are given t he default pr ior it y of t he
ingr ess por t . Use t he next fields t o configur e t he pr ior it y level- t o- phy sical queue m apping.
The Sw it ch has eight physical queues t hat you can m ap t o t he 8 pr iorit y levels. On t he Sw it ch, t raffic assigned
t o higher index queues get s t hr ough fast er w hile t raffic in low er index queues is dr opped if t he net w or k is
congest ed.
Pr ior it y Level ( The follow ing descript ions ar e based on t he t raffic t y pes defined in t he I EEE 802.1d st andar d
( w hich incor porat es t he 802.1p) .
Level 7
Ty pically used for net w or k cont r ol t raffic such as r out er configurat ion m essages.
Level 6
Ty pically used for voice t raffic t hat is especially sensit ive t o j it t er ( j it t er is t he var iat ions in
delay ) .
Level 5
Ty pically used for v ideo t hat consum es high bandw idt h and is sensit ive t o j it t er.
Level 4
Ty pically used for cont r olled load, lat ency- sensit ive t raffic such as SNA ( Sy st em s Net w ork
Archit ect ur e) t ransact ions.
Level 3
Ty pically used for “ excellent effor t ” or bet t er t han best effor t and w ould include im por t ant
business t raffic t hat can t olerat e som e delay.
Level 2
This is for “ spar e bandw idt h”.
Level 1
This is t y pically used for non- cr it ical “ backgr ound” t raffic such as bulk t ransfer s t hat ar e
allow ed but t hat should not affect ot her applicat ions and user s.
Level 0
Ty pically used for best - effor t t raffic.
