Chapter 20 Multicast

The following table describes the labels in this screen.
20.4 IGMP Filtering Profile
IGMP filter profiles allow you to control access to IGMP multicast groups. This allows you to
have a service available to a specific IGMP multicast group. You can configure an IGMP filter
profile for an IGMP multicast group that has access to a service (like a SIP server for
example). Within a profile, configure an IGMP filter to specify the multicast IP address
ranges. Then assign the IGMP filter profile to the ports (in the
Multicast
screen) that are
allowed to use the service.
Click
Advanced Applications
and
Multicast
in the navigation panel. Click the
IGMP
Filtering Profile
link to display the screen as shown.

Multicast
LABEL
DESCRIPTION
IGMP Snooping
Select
Active
to enable IGMP snooping to forward group multicast traffic only to
ports that are members of that group. The unknown multicast frames will be
dropped.
Clear the check box to disable IGMP snooping and the switch forwards any
unknown multicast frames to all ports.
IGMP Filtering
Select
Active
to enable IGMP filtering to limit the IGMP groups a subscriber on a
port can join.
Multicast addresses (244.0.0.1 to 244.0.0.254) are reserved for the local scope.
By default, the switch always allows a frame with a reserved multicast address.
Port
This field displays the port number.
Immed. Leave
Select this option to set the switch to remove this port from the multicast tree when
an IGMP version 2 leave message is received on this port.
Select this option if there is only one host connected to this port.
Group Limit
Select this option to limit the number of multicast groups this port is allowed to join.
Max. Group Num. Select this option and enter a number to limit the number of multicast groups this
port is allowed to join. Once a port is registered in the specified number of
multicast groups, any new IGMP join report frame(s) is dropped on this port.
IGMP Filtering
Profile
Select the name of the IGMP filtering profile to use for this port.
IGMP Querier
Mode
This field is applicable on the Ethernet ports.
The switch treats an IGMP query port as being connected to an IGMP multicast
router (or server). The switch forwards IGMP join or leave packets to an IGMP
query port.
Select
Auto
to have the switch use the port as an IGMP query port if the port
receives IGMP query packets.
Select
Fixed
to have the switch always use the port as an IGMP query port. Select
this when you connect an IGMP multicast server to the port.
Select
Edge
to stop the switch from using the port as an IGMP query port. The
switch will not keep any record of an IGMP router being connected to this port.
The switch does not forward IGMP join or leave packets to this port.
Apply
Click
Apply
to save your changes back to the switch.
