7.2.2 Basic (WEP Encryption)
WEP encrypt ion scram bles t he dat a t ransm it t ed bet ween t he wireless st at ions and t he access point s
( AP) t o keep net work com m unicat ions privat e. Bot h t he wireless st at ions and t he access point s
m ust use t he sam e WEP key.
Not e: WEP is ext r em ely insecur e. I t s encr ypt ion can be br oken by an at t acker, using
w idely- available soft war e. I t is st r ongly r ecom m ended t hat you use a m or e
effect ive secur it y m echanism . Use t he st r ongest secur it y m echanism t hat all t he
w ireless devices in your net w ork support . For exam ple, use WPA- PSK or WPA2- PSK
if all your w ir eless devices suppor t it , or use WPA or WPA2 if your w ir eless devices
suppor t it and you have a RADI US ser ver. I f your w ir eless devices suppor t not hing
st r onger t han WEP, use t he highest encr ypt ion level available.
Your Device allows you t o configure up t o four 64- bit or 128- bit WEP keys but only one key can be
enabled at any one t im e.
