4.6 Configuring QoS Queue and Class Setup
This sect ion cont ains t ut orials on how you can configure t he QoS screen.
Let ’s say you are a t eam leader of a sm all sales branch office. You want t o priorit ize e- m ail t raffic
because your t ask includes sending urgent updat es t o client s at least t wice every hour. You also
upload dat a files ( such as logs and e- m ail archives) t o t he FTP server t hroughout t he day. Your
colleagues use t he I nt ernet for research, as well as chat applicat ions for com m unicat ing wit h ot her
branch offices.
I n t he following figure, your I nt ernet connect ion has an upst ream t ransm ission bandwidt h of
10,000 kbps. For t his exam ple, you want t o configure QoS so t hat e- m ail t raffic get s t he highest
priorit y wit h at least 5,000 kbps. You can do t he following:
• Configure a queue t o assign t he highest priorit y queue ( 1) t o e- m ail t raffic going t o t he WAN
int erface, so t hat e- m ail t raffic would not get delayed when t here is net work congest ion.
• Not e t he I P address ( 192.168.1.23 for exam ple) and/ or MAC address ( AA: FF: AA: FF: AA: FF for
exam ple) of your com put er and m ap it t o queue 7.
Not e: QoS is applied t o t raffic flow ing out of t he Dev ice.
Traffic t hat does not m at ch t his class is assigned a priorit y queue based on t he int ernal QoS
m apping t able on t he Device.
