Firmware File Types for Upgrade
The X2002 accepts the following four kinds of files.
• Base firmware - This type of file has a “.bin” extension, for example
“100AVA2C0.bin”. This file contains basic operating instructions on how the
device drivers interact with the main processing unit of the X2002. In other
words, when you upload a new “.bin” file you might not see any changes in the
GUI of the X2002, but you may experience improved performance.
• Main firmware - This type of file has a “.rom” extension, for example
“100AVA2C0.rom”. This file contains functional instructions for the X2002. When
you upload this type of file, you may see new features or changes in the GUI of
the X2002.
• Factory Default Settings - This type of file has a “.romd” extension, for example
“100AVA2C0.romd”. This file contains factory default settings for the X2002.
When you upload this type of file, all configuration will be cleared and replaced
with default settings.
• Firmware and Configuration - This type of file has a “.binromromd” extension,
for example “100AVA2C0.binromromd”. This file combines all of the files listed
above into a single uploadable file. It conveniently lets you upgrade the X2002
all at one time.
Note: It is highly recommended to use a “.binromromd” file for firmware upgrade.
Find firmware at
www.zyxel.com
. Read the firmware release notes before
uploading the firmware files. The upload process uses HTTPS and may take
several minutes. After a successful upload, the system reboots.
