Chapter 2 Introducing the Web Configurator
2.4.2 Bridge Mode
The following screen displays when the ZyWALL is set to bridge mode. While in bridge
mode, the ZyWALL cannot get an IP address from a DHCP server. The LAN, WAN, DMZ
and WLAN interfaces all have the same (static) IP address and subnet mask. You can
configure the ZyWALL's IP address in order to access the ZyWALL for management. If you
connect your computer directly to the ZyWALL, you also need to assign your computer a
static IP address in the same subnet as the ZyWALL's IP address in order to access the
ZyWALL.
The ZyWALL bridges traffic traveling between the ZyWALL's interfaces.
You can use the firewall in bridge mode (refer to the firewall chapters for details on
configuring the firewall).
Interface
This is the port type. Port types are:
WAN1
,
WAN2
,
Dial Backup
,
LAN
,
WLAN
and
DMZ
.
Click "+" to expand or "-" to collapse the LAN and DMZ IP alias drop-down lists.
Status
For the LAN and DMZ ports, this displays the port speed and duplex setting. For the
WAN and Dial Backup port, it displays the port speed and duplex setting if you’re
using Ethernet encapsulation and
Down
(line is down or not connected),
Idle
(line
(ppp) idle),
Dial
(starting to trigger a call) or
Drop
(dropping a call) if you’re using
PPPoE encapsulation. For the WLAN port, it displays
Active
when WLAN is
enabled or
Inactive
when WLAN is disabled.
IP Address
This shows the port’s IP address.
Subnet Mask
This shows the port’s subnet mask.
DHCP
This shows the WAN port’s DHCP role -
Client
or
None
.
This shows the LAN port’s DHCP role -
Server
,
Relay
or
None
.
Renew
If you are using Ethernet encapsulation and the WAN port is configured to get the IP
address automatically from the ISP, click
Renew
to release the WAN port’s
dynamically assigned IP address and get the IP address afresh. Click
Dial
to dial up
the PPTP, PPPoE or dial backup connection.
Show Statistics
Click
Show Statistics
to see router performance statistics such as the number of
packets sent and number of packets received for each port, including WAN1,
WAN2, Dial Backup, LAN, WLAN and DMZ.
Show DHCP
Table
Click
Show DHCP Table
to show current DHCP client information.
VPN Status
