Operation Instructions for the Scanning Stand
The stand is delivered in a zip-lock bag in a folded form. Remove the stand from the zip-lock
bag. Notice that the stand opens like a book cover - we will use the book cover analogy in
th
ese
instructions. One side of the cover has two wires and the other side of the cover does
not have any wires. Hold the side of the cover with the wires vertically on the table with the
wires down. Rotate the wires by ninety degrees towards the side of the cover that does not
have wires. Place the stand on the table. At this time the stand resembles a book cover that
is partially open and the spine of the book is at the top. Wires at the bottom should lead
from one side of the cover to the other side of the cover and form a stable base on the table.
Inspect with your fingers the side of the cover with wires, that is now standing vertically on
the table starting from top - the spine of the book - and going down. Please notice that
about 3 inches down from the spine there is a cut-out section.
Now inspect with your fingers the side of the cover that does not have wires starting from
the spine and going down. Just below the spine you will feel a rubbery section in the middle -
this is a micro-suction tape that will keep your mobile device in place. When your reach the
middle of the cover you will notice an opening in the cover - this is where the camera of your
mobile device will be once the stand is assembled. Also, there is a crease in the middle that
allows to bend the cover that does not have wires towards the side of the cover that has
wires. When you reach the bottom, you will notice tha
t
the bottom is more narrow than the
rest of the stand. This narrow part is a tab that locks the stand to create a top shelf where
you put your mobile device. Fold the side of the cover using the crease in the middle so that
the tab at the bottom goes through the opening that is about three inches down from the
spine on the side that has wires. The tab locks in the opening.
The stand is now assembled. You can slide a sheet of paper that you would like to read
between the wires till the paper touches the vertical side of the cover. The shorter side of
the paper should touch the vertical side of the cover and the longer side of the paper should
be parallel to the wires. Wires are about nine inches apart and a letter size paper should
slide easily between the wires.
Now you can place your mobile device at the top of the stand. The camera should be
pointing down and it should be in front of the half-circle cutout at the edge. Micro-suction
tape should help with aligning the long edge of the phone on the side where is the camera.
Once the camera is in above half-circle cut-out you may start reading the document using
KNFB reader or similar application.
The wires may be extended from the vertical side to read larger format paper. Before
extending the wires from the stand you should rotate the wires by ninety degrees to a folded
position. The wires are designed in a special way to extend easily only when in folded
position and to resist movement in and out when unfolded. Please inspect the side with the
