Digital Laser Detector
SAFETY
•
Read and understand this instruction sheet before using this
detector and clamp.
•
Read and understand the instruction manual for the rotary laser
that you are operating with the detector and clamp.
•
Set the laser at a position above or below eye level.
DANGER:
DO NOT STARE INTO THE LASER BEAM.
WARNING:
This product contains a chemical known to the State
of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive
harm.
Introduction
The D
E
WALT Digital Laser Detector can be used with or without the
enclosed Detector Clamp. Without the clamp, the detector can be
held in place by hand or with the magnets on the top of the unit. The
magnets will hold the detector to steel studs or ceiling track. When
used with the clamp, the detector can be positioned on a grade rod,
leveling pole, stud or post.
Before use, remove and discard the translucent plastic tape that has
been placed on the front and back LCD indicator windows.
The D
E
WALT Digital Laser Detector enables you to locate a laser
beam emitted by a Rotary Laser in bright light conditions or over
long distances. The detector can be used in both indoor and outdoor
situations where it is difficult to see the laser beam. The detector is
not for use with non-rotating lasers.
The detector gives both visual and audio signals as to the location
of the laser beam. The D
E
WALT Digital Laser Detector is compati-
ble with most rotary lasers on the market today.
BATTERIES:
The Digital Laser Detector is powered by 3 “AAA”
batteries. To install the batteries provided, remove the battery
compartment cover on the back of the detector by rotating the
cover counterclockwise and lifting the cover off. Figure 1 shows
the orientation of the cells in the compartment. A diagram is also
cast into the compartment as a reminder. Replace the compart-
ment cover. Do not over tighten.
When the battery power is running low, a “LOW” indicator will show
in the LCD windows on the front and back. When replacing batter-
ies, do not mix old and new cells.
MOUNTING ON A GRADE ROD
1. To secure your Laser Detector to a Grade Rod first attach the
detector to the clamp as shown in Fig. 2.
2. Press the Quick Release Button on the clamp and pull out the
long threaded screw.
3. Position the Laser Detector at the height needed and tighten the
clamp to the Grade Rod (Fig. 3).
4. To make adjustments in height, slightly loosen the clamp, repo-
sition and retighten.
Operation
• Set up, position and level the rotary laser that you will be using.
Turn the laser on and make sure that the laser is rotating and
emitting a laser beam.
NOTE:
This detector has been designed
to be used only with a rotating laser. The detector will not work
with a stationary beam laser level.
• Turn the detector on by pressing the ON button. The LCD “Level
Beam Indicator” line will flash on and then off. The detector will
emit a high pitched tone for a second and ON will show in the
display window. Speaker volume is set on “High” at the factory
and may be adjusted to High, Low or Off by pressing the volume
button.
• The volume will cycle from High, to Low, to Off each time the
button is pressed. NOTE: Audio signals will only be emitted
when the rotary laser beam passes over the Beam Detection
window and the volume is set for High or Low.
• To detect the laser beam, position the front side of the detector
toward the rotary laser. Remember: The laser must be rotating.
It will be difficult to see the laser beam. Move the detector up or
down within the approximate area of the beam until you see the
display show “UP” or “DOWN” arrows and you hear the tones.
