G e n e r a l i n f o r m a t i o n :
Pressure Transmitters convert a pressure into a linear
electrical output signal. The transmitter is preset to the
specific measuring range at the manufactures plant. An
additional setting is not possible.
S a f e t y i n s t r u c t i o n s :
•
Read operating instructions thoroughly. Failure
to comply can result in device failure, system
damage or personal injury.
•
In a severely contaminated system, avoid
breathing acid vapors and avoid contact with skin
from contaminated refrigerant / lubricants.
Failure to do so could result in injury.
•
Before opening any system make sure pressure in
system is brought to and remains at atmospheric
pressure.
•
Do not exceed the specified maximum ratings for
pressure, temperature, voltage and current.
•
Ensure that the system piping is grounded.
•
Do not release any refrigerant into the
atmosphere!
•
Do not operate system before all cable connections
are completed.
•
Do not use any other fluid media without prior
approval of EMERSON. Use of fluids not listed
could result in: Change of hazard category of
product and consequently change of conformity
assessment requirement for product in
accordance with European pressure equipment
directive 14/68/EU.
•
Ensure that design, installation and operation are
according to European and national
standards/regulations.
•
Electronic devices are subject to electromagnetic
interference. Ensure that all components in the
system are sufficiently protected.
M o u n t i n g l o c a t i o n : ( F i g . 1 )
•
In order to prevent ice build-up and or condensation
on the PT5N when connected to the suction pipe, it
is sometimes useful to extend the connection using a
nominal 200 mm piece of 6 mm/1/4” copper tube
from the main suction pipe.
•
To maintain accuracy of PT5N the installation of a
pipe between pressure transmitter and source of high
temperature media is recommended.
•
Protect PT5N against sunrays and vibration.
M o u n t i n g d i r e c t i o n :
•
Position as desired
I n s t a l l a t i o n :
Flare Connection - PT5N-xxM: (Fig.2)
•
Do not exceed max. torque of 10 Nm for tightening
of PT5N to Schrader pressure connection.
Fig.2:
Note:
If a leak is detected at the specified torque, the
flare surface of the Schrader connector should be
checked for scratches. Do not over torque; instead,
insert a copper gasket.
NPT Connection - PT5N-150D: (Fig.3)
1a Seal with PTFE tape
•
The PTFE tape described is according to BS4375
with a width of 12 mm and a thickness of
0.075 mm ± 10%.
•
The tape must be wrapped around the thread in its
running direction and should be checked to
determine that it does not protrude at the beginning
of the thread. From the beginning of the thread
apply 5 layers of the sealing tape. By doing this the
tape needs to be tightened on the thread spiral,
without damaging it.
1b Seal with sealing liquid Loctite 567
•
Spread the product 360° around the beginning of
the thread, leaving the first thread pitch free.
Spread material to the bottom of the thread to fill
in the blanks thoroughly.
•
Note: For the maximum pressure and solvent
resistance let the material cure for at least 24 hours
2
Screw in and tighten first by hand.
3
Then tighten 1/2 turn with a 24 mm wrench or
tighten with a torque wrench 20 Nm.
Fig.3
Braze Connections - PT5N-xxT: (Fig.4)
• Perform and consider the brazing joint as per
EN 14324.
• Before and after brazing clean tubing and brazing
joints.
•
Minimize vibrations in the piping lines by
appropriate solutions.
• Use of flux and silver rod having a minimum of 30%
silver.

P r e s s u r e T e s t :
After completion of installation, a pressure test must be
carried out as follows:
-
according to EN 378 for systems which must comply
with European pressure equipment directive
14/68/EU.
W a r n i n g :
•
Failure to do so could result in loss of refrigerant
and personal injury.
•
The pressure test must be conducted by skilled
persons with due respect regarding the danger
related to pressure.
T i g h t n e s s T e s t :
Conduct a tightness test according to EN 378-2 with
appropriate equipment and method to identify leakages
of external joints. The allowable leakage rate must be
according system manufacturer’s specification.
E l e c t r i c a l c o n n e c t i o n : ( F i g . 5 , F i g . 6 )
•
For proper wiring use the cable assembly PT4-Mxx.
•
Allow enough space on top of pressure transmitter to
mount plug as shown in Fig.6. The plug can be
mounted on pressure transmitter only in one position
(Fig.5 marking:
).

Note:
•
In case electrical connection cable is extended
beyond 6 m, system signal noise and EMC must be
verified by installer for proper operation.
•
Signal line should not be installed parallel with
power lines to avoid electrical interference.
S e r v i c e / M a i n t e n a n c e :
•
Defective PT5N must be replaced, they cannot be
repaired.
