CAUTION:
Turn off power to the electric service or panel and to equipment to be protected
before installing any Surge Protection Device. All wiring should be done by a qualified
electrician and comply with the National Electric Code and local electric codes.
INSTALLATION
1.
Test and verify system voltage to assure proper model selection of Surge Protection Device
(SPD). Refer to the wiring configurations and voltages on page 2 and 3 for additional
information. The Enhanced Commercial Series of SPD must be installed downstream from a
400 amp or less current interruption device or circuit breaker.
2.
Turn Power OFF.
3.
Remove the knock out from the load center or equipment panel that will position the SPD for
the shortest wire lead distance. Note that the shorter the lead length between the SPD and
the load center, the better the protection.
4.
Mount the SPD to the panel or an adjacent wall. If the mounting position prevents the direct
connection of the offset nipple to the load center or equipment panel, a short piece of conduit
must be used to comply with the National Electrical Code.
5.
For Flush Mount Panels, use the Intermatic Flush Mount Plate Model number IG1FMP-H.
a)
Use the template enclosed with the Flush Mount Plate to mark the wall.
b)
Cut and remove the marked wall section.
c)
Remove the four corner bolts from the cover of the SPD, do not remove the cover.
d)
Position the Flush Mount Plate over the cover of the SPD and replace the four bolts.
e)
Mount the SPD to the wall after completing step 6 below.
6.
Twist or ty-wrap lead wires to eliminate any space or gaps between them. Pass the wires
through the selected knockout and secure the SPD.
7.
Cut each wire lead to the proper length. DO NOT coil extra wire length.
8.
Connect the GREEN wire lead to the system ground.
9.
Connect the WHITE wire lead to the system neutral bus. When a panel is the main panel,
the neutral bus may be the same as the ground bus.
10.
Connect each phase wire (a circuit breaker is optional). Make sure that the phase wires have
the correct voltage level between them. Note that for the 240 volt High Leg Delta, the wire for
the High Leg is colored RED, and must be connected to the leg that measures approximately
208 volts to neutral and to ground. Failure to comply with this instruction will result in failure
of the SPD and void the warranty.
11.
Check all connections for proper tightness or torque. Suggested torque values are published
by the circuit breaker manufacturer.
12.
Turn Power on.
13.
Make sure that each indicator on the SPD is ON. If not, turn power off and recheck each
installation step listed above.
14.
For troubleshooting assistance, call Intermatic at 815-675-7000 and ask for Technical
Support.
INSTALLATION NOTE:
The cover of the SPD may be rotated 180
degrees if the device must be installed in an inverted position.
Carefully remove the four corner bolts, rotate the cover and reinstall the bolts. Care must be exercised to
prevent damage to the wire leads to the LED indicators.
