Martindale Automatic welding helmet 9/13 Respiratory system consists of: -
1 M23/2000PLUS or M23/1000PLUS Power Unit, Battery, Intelligent Battery Charger, Filter and Pre-Filter kit + 1 Weld shield
assy & Hose M23AWH9/13
Before using the system it is essential that you read these instructions and ensure that the correct equipment has been
selected. Always be aware of the limitations of use of the equipment and that it is appropriate to the task.
1. WARNINGS
•
If these instructions are not followed or the unit is used incorrectly the system may not offer the appropriate level of respiratory
protection.
•
This power unit offers NO protection unless a main filter is fitted.
•
In a power off situation the headpiece offers no respiratory protection and rapid CO
2
build-up and oxygen depletion may also result.
This is an abnormal situation.
•
The fit of the headpiece should be checked before use. Refer to the specific instructions supplied with the Welding shield for fitting
& maintenance instructions.
•
At high work rates the pressure inside the headpiece may become negative at peak inhalation.
•
The system should not be used in Oxygen deficient or Oxygen enriched atmospheres
•
The user must ensure that the nature of the hazard is identified and that the system offers an adequate level of protection. This unit
should not be used where the nature of the hazard is unknown.
•
This unit is NOT intrinsically safe and therefore should not be used in explosive atmospheres
•
Assembly, maintenance and fitting must be done in a clean air area.
•
Be aware that the hose protrudes from the back of the headpiece and take care to avoid snagging.
•
In high wind velocities the assumed protection levels may not be achieved.
•
The level of respiratory protection is unlikely to be achieved if facial hair or spectacle side arms pass under the face seal
•
This M23AWH9/13 Automatic welding helmet is approved to THP2
ONLY
when used with the Magnum 1000PLUS or
2000PLUS power unit fitted with a M23P2/5 or M23P3/5 main filter, and either a M23PLUS/B or M23PLUS/HDB battery pack.
APPLICATIONS AND LIMITATIONS
Martindale Automatic welding helmet 9/13 Respiratory system complies with EN 12941:1998+ A2 :2008
Provides class THP2SL (P2 solid and liquid aerosols) protection against dusts and particles and has had to demonstrate a laboratory
protection factor of 50. No protection is given against gases or vapours by the P2 filter or odour filter which gives nuisance level odour
protection in addition to the particulate protection and should
NOT
be used against toxic levels of gas/vapour or where the gas/vapour
level exceeds the occupational exposure limit.
It is recognised that laboratory protection factors can not always be achieved in the workplace. National guidance varies from country to
country as to how protection factors are implemented and how RPE is selected. Please refer to your appropriate national guidance. E.g.
EN 529 Europe.
The system should not be used in conditions where concentrations of gaseous contaminants exceed the occupational exposure limit.
The system is recommended for use in the temperature range +5°C to +35°C and in conditions where relative humidity does not exceed
90%.
2. PREPARATION FOR USE
Always ensure that the correct battery charger is used in conjunction with the correct battery (see below), failure to use the correct
combination may cause permanent damage to the battery or reduce the operational life of the respiratory system.
3.1 Battery Pt No (M23PLUS/B) or (M23PLUS/HDB)
Intelligent charger Pt No (M23PLUSBC)
Instructions for intelligent charger :
To change the mains plug from European to UK
and vice versa unplug charger from mains and push up switch marked “Open” in the
direction of the arrow the plug should then pop out. Insert the replacement plug into the charger pushing firmly until it “clicks” home.
Batteries may be charged on or off the turbo unit.
Operating :
Batteries must be charged indoors at an ambient of between 10°C & 30°C. Do not cover charger.
Important :
In excessive cold or warm environments the recharging device may suppress the charging current to standby level so the
battery will be not charged.
Important :
Never charge in a potentially explosive atmosphere.
