Extending the Telescope

The telescopes come collapsed in their wooden boxes.
They must be fully extended before being used. Grasp the
body of the telescope with one hand and pull gently but
firmly on the brass portion of the eyepiece end of the tele-
scope. Keep pulling until all the sections of the telescope
are fully extended, making certain that no sections are
stuck. Do not touch any of the glass surfaces when
extending or collapsing the telescope.

Focusing the 25x30 Telescope

Aim the objective end of the telescope at an object that is at
least 50 ft. away. Twist the eyepiece end of the telescope
clockwise or counterclockwise until the image in the telescope
is sharp. Go a little bit beyond sharp focus until the image just
starts to blur again, then reverse the rotation, just to make sure
you’ve hit the exact focus point. Make certain not to touch the
surfaces of the lenses while focusing the telescope.

Focusing the 30x50 Telescope

Aim the objective end of the telescope at an object that is at
least 50 ft. away. To focus the telescope, you must push in or
pull out the eyepeice end of the telescope. Be certain that you
are not collapsing other sections of the telescope. When the
image is focused, go a little beyond the sharp focus point until
the image just starts to blur again, then reverse the direction
you are moving the eyepiece end of the telescope, just to make
sure you’ve hit the exact focus point. Make certain not to touch
the surfaces of the lenses while focusing the telescope.

Extendable Lens Shade (30x50 only)

The 30x50 telescope features an extendable lens shade.
Normally the lens shade is kept retracted, but in circum-
stances where glare is a problem the lens shade can be
extended. This is useful for keeping unwanted light from
reaching the objective lens and washing out the image. The
lens shade must be retracted before returning the telescope
to its box.
