For mounting a DOB Traditional, DOB Collapsible, or Newtonian reflector telescope tube OTA on a
SynScan Dob GOTO upgrade kit, user should replace one of the side bearings on the tube with a
bracket that comes with the upgrade kit.
Please read the following instructions on how to best finish the job.
1.
Remove the side bearing which is on the side of the focuser.
If the telescope is a traditional solid tube type, we recommend you to remove the primary
mirror from the tube first. Then you can remove the side bearing through the bottom of the
tube. To remove the primary mirror, simply remove the 6 screws around the bottom of the
tube and keep the primary mirror at a safe place to avoid damaging the surface of the
mirror.
If your telescope is a collapsible type, there is no need to remove the primary mirror from
the tube.
Please keep the removed side bearing, screws, and washers in a safe place for future use.
2.
Installing the mount bracket.
From the DOB SynScan (GoTo) Upgrade kit, locate the new mount bracket (shown in
Figure
2
). Install the new mount bracket at the same location as the removed side bearing. The two
horizontal mounting holes should fit into the holes on the tube.
Use two short flat head screws to fix the bracket onto the tube. Apply a washer between the
nut and wall of the tube. The telescope with the new bracket installed should look like
