• Use of a higher amperage fuse may cause serious damage or fire.
• Do not use a piece of wire instead of a fuse.
• If the replaced fuse blows again, consult your dealer.
Precautions
On safety
• Do not connect or operate this unit, a car radio, or a portable device while
driving or waiting at a traffic signal. Park in a safe place first.
• Unplug this unit from the cigarette lighter socket whenever the engine of
the car is not running. Depending on the car type, even if the ignition key
is off, the power supply may not turn off automatically. In this case, this
may cause unnecessary car battery consumption.
• When not in use, unplug this unit from the cigarette lighter socket and
store in a safe place where it will not interfere with your driving or become
entangled in parts of the car interior (seat, door, etc.). To disconnect the
unit, grasp the unit and pull it. Never pull the cord connected to the unit.
• Should any liquid or solid object fall into the unit, disconnect the unit
from the cigarette lighter socket and the equipment and have the unit
checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further.
Installation
• Do not place this unit in a location where it is:
– subject to extreme high temperature.
– subject to direct sunlight or near a heat source.
– subject to mechanical vibration or shock.
– subject to excessive dust.
• Be sure to fully secure the connected device connected to the unit to
avoid moving when braking.
Operation
• Never yank or pull the cables. This may cause malfunctions or wire breaks.
• To prevent damage, be careful not to drop or hit the unit. This may cause
a mechanical shock or malfunctions to the unit.
• This unit may become warm while using. This is not a malfunction.
• After using, disconnect the unit from the cigarette lighter socket and the equipment.
On charging
• Make sure the current and voltage of the USB rechargeable device match the outlet.
• For safety, if the input current is too high, the unit will automatically shut down.
• To avoid short-circuiting, do not allow the terminals of the unit or
connector to touch any metal object.
• Note that data stored in the portable audio device connected to this unit
may be lost or damaged if the engine is started or stopped with this unit
inserted into the cigarette lighter socket.
Troubleshooting
Should any problem persist after you have made the following checks,
consult your nearest Sony dealer.
There is no sound from the portable audio device to the car radio.

This unit is not fully plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.

The transmission frequency of the unit and the FM car radio do not coincide.

Set the volume control of the portable audio device as high as
possible but not so high that the audio signal becomes distorted.
The volume is low.

If sound is still low, turn the volume up on the car radio.
The sound is distorted.

If you connected to the LINE OUT jack on the portable audio device,
disconnect and reconnect to the headphone jack.

The bass boost function on the portable audio device is on.

Features
With this unit, you can enjoy listening to audio played on portable audio
devices through a car FM radio. Music from portable audio devices such as
an HDD, flash memory, MD, CD WALKMAN*

transmitted to the car’s FM radio via FM radio waves.
Stable clear sound
• Using the flexible transmitting antenna cable, it is possible to transmit a
stable FM radio wave in any kind of car. The flexible transmitting
antenna cable has a magnet to anchor itself to a metal part inside the car.
• Digital frequency selection, rather than analog, assures a more stable and
clear transmission.
Selectable frequency from full-range of FM broadcast-
ing (88.1-107.9 MHz)
You will be able to find an open frequency for transmitting, even where
many stations are broadcasted.
4 direct memory buttons
By memorizing often-used frequencies to the 4 memory buttons, you can

Compact design
The small design of this unit allows it to be used in the cigarette lighter
socket.
This unit is designed so as its protruding part is in one direction only, and
when installed can be rotated in order to avoid any obstructions around the
cigarette lighter socket.
No dry batteries
This unit connects to a 12 V or 24 V DC car battery (cigarette lighter
socket), available in many types of cars and trucks.

How to Use
Be sure to install this unit with the engine of the car running. If this unit is
left plugged into the cigarette lighter socket when the engine is not
running, power may be consumed from the car battery.
Do not connect or operate this unit, a car radio, or a portable device while
driving or waiting at a traffic signal. Park in a safe place first.
Notes
• Ensure that this unit is safely installed so as not to interfere with the
operation of the accelerator or gears.
• Never perform connection and operation while your car is in motion.
• For details about car radio, car radio antenna and the connected device,
refer to the operating instructions supplied with each device.
Set the car radio

Set your car radio to FM.

Select a channel that does not get good FM broadcast
reception between 88.1 MHz–107.9 MHz.
The FM broadcast reception conditions may change as your location
changes. If the selected frequency becomes occupied by a broadcast
signal, select another open frequency.
Note
Turn the car radio volume down before setting the car radio.
Install the unit

Connect the stereo mini plug to the headphone jack on the
portable audio device.
If your portable audio device has separate settings for headphone and
LINE OUT, set the portable audio device to the headphone setting.
Sound is distorted if it is connected to LINE OUT.

Insert this unit into the cigarette lighter socket securely until
the frequency appears in the frequency display window
(See fig.
A
-

).

Press the fre/– button repeatedly to select the same
frequency that you set on the car radio.
Each press changes the frequency by 0.1 MHz, cycling through
88.1 MHz–107.9 MHz.
Tips
• You can adjust the angle for the position that the display indication
can well be seen (See fig.
A
-

).
• Keep pressing the fre/– button to change the frequency
rapidly.
• Next time you turn on this unit, this unit is tuned to the last selected
frequency.

Start playback on the portable audio device.
Notes
• Do not activate any bass boost or equalizer function on the portable
audio device. Otherwise, sound may be distorted.
• Set the volume control of the portable audio device as high as
possible, but not so high that the audio signal becomes distorted. If
sound is still low, turn the volume up on the car radio.

Route the antenna cable inside the car for best audio
reception from this unit.
The method to install the antenna cable will depend on your
car type. Find the position that provides the best reception,
and then install the cable (See fig.
B
).
Notes
• Route the antenna cable close to the car antenna. This may help to
improve the reception from this unit.
• For details about the car radio antenna, refer to the car operating
instructions.
About the antenna cable magnet
The antenna cable is supplied with a magnet attached at the
end. It is used to anchor the cable to a metal part of the car,
such as a passenger’s seat rail. The magnet at the end of the
antenna cable is to anchor the antenna’s best reception
position and prevents it being moved, for example, when
passengers get in or out of the car.
To use the antenna cable magnet, do the following
(See fig.
C
).

Route the antenna cable where the best reception from this unit is
obtained.

Attach the magnet at the end of the antenna cable to a metal part of
the car, such as a passenger’s seat rail, to anchor the antenna cable
in place.

If the reception from this unit becomes worse after attaching the
magnet at the end of the antenna cable to a passenger’s seat rail,
etc., in step
2
, revert to a previous position (to best reception) in
step
1
, without using the magnet (without attaching it to a
passenger’s seat rail, etc.).
Notes
• Be careful to line the cable so that it will not interfere with driving,
become entangled with passenger movements, or be damaged by
seat adjustments, etc.
• If the magnet is attached near movable objects, such as doors or seat
rails, make sure that the antenna cable does not become entangled.
This may cause the wire to break.
• Do not leave floppy disks or personal credit cards with magnetic
coding near the antenna cable magnet.
If the reception from this unit declines
If the reception from this unit declines, even though it was good at the
frequency set in the beginning, solve the problem referring to the following
remedies, according to your circumstances.
After setup, reception from this unit declines while driving.
c
FM broadcast reception may be poor in certain locations, such as
underground parking, behind tall buildings, etc. If the car radio and
this unit were set up in such a location; due to poor FM broadcast
reception, the frequency you set for this unit may be already
occupied. If so, the occupying FM broadcast station is received
when its reception conditions improve (as you drive) resulting in
interference with this unit’s same set frequency. In this case, reset
the car radio and this unit to another open frequency in a location
where the FM broadcast reception is better.
Reception from this unit is disrupted when you move to a new
location.
c
FM broadcast reception conditions vary from one location to
another. After setting an open frequency in one location, as you
move to other areas, that frequency may become occupied by a
broadcast station’s signal. In this case, reset the frequency on both
the car radio and this unit to another open frequency.
Interference or noise occurs.
c
Other FM broadcasts or non-licensed broadcastings in a city area may
interfere with the reception of the frequency set for this unit. In this
case, set the car radio and this unit to a less-influenced frequency.
To memorize the selected frequency
The frequency for the memory buttons is set to 88.1 MHz at the factory
setting.
Select the frequency in step 3 of “Install the unit,” then hold down one of
the memory buttons until the memory button number appears in the
frequency display window.
Once you memorize the desired frequency, you can select it by simply
pressing the memory button.
Note
If any frequency is already memorized on the button, the frequency is
replaced with the new one.
Charging a device
You can charge a USB rechargeable Walkman and iPod.
Note that some models cannot be charged with this unit. For details, refer
to “USB rechargeable models,” the latest catalogue or home page.

Set the rechargeable device selecting switch to “Sony” or
“iPod” which you use. (See fig.
D

Set the switch to “Sony” to charge a Walkman, or to “iPod” to charge
an iPod.
Note
Be sure to set the rechargeable device select switch correctly.
Incorrect setting may cause damage on this unit or the USB
rechargeable device.

Connect the USB rechargeable device to this unit using the
USB cable supplied with the device (See fig.
D
-

).
Depending on the model you use, a USB cable may not be needed.
Install the device in a safe place.

Set the device to recharge.
It may not be necessary to set the device to recharge.

When charging is finished, disconnect this unit from the
USB rechargeable device.
Notes
• Plug securely into the cigarette lighter socket.
• This unit may not fit, depending on the location or shape of the cigarette
lighter socket.
• Secure the connected device so that it will not move in the event of
sudden braking.
• Be careful to route all the cables properly so that:
– they will not interfere with your driving.
– they will not become entangled in parts of the car interior (seat, door,
etc.) or with passenger movements.
– they will not be damaged by seat adjustments, causing the wire to break.
– they will be out of the reach of children.
• Install this unit in a manner that will not hinder the airbag function in an
emergency.
• Never yank or pull the USB cable connected to the unit. This may cause
malfunctions or wire breaks.
• Do not use the device in a place subject to liquid or moisture to avoid fire
or electric shock.
• Performance is not guaranteed in case of using a USB hub or USB
extension cable. Follow the connection method designated by the
portable audio device (Walkman or iPod).
• Some devices cannot play while charging. For details, refer to the
operating instructions supplied with the device.
USB rechargeable models (as of August, 2007)
The following models are supported according to the position of the
rechargeable device selecting switch.

Fuse Replacement
If this unit does not work correctly, check the fuse in the cigarette lighter plug.
If the fuse is blown, replace it (See fig.

).

Detach the end of the plug by turning it counter-clockwise.

feu de circulation. Commencez par vous stationner dans un endroit sûr.
Remarques
• Assurez-vous que cet appareil est correctement installé pour ne pas gêner

Réglez l’autoradio

Réglez votre autoradio à FM.

Sélectionnez un canal dont la réception des émissions FM
est médiocre entre 88,1 MHz et 107,9 MHz.
Les conditions de réception FM peuvent changer au fur et à mesure
que vous vous déplacez. Si la fréquence sélectionnée devient occupée
par un signal d’émission, sélectionnez une autre fréquence libre.
Remarque
Baissez le volume avant de régler l’autoradio.
Installez l’appareil

Raccordez la mini-fiche stéréo à la prise casque de
l’appareil audio portable.
Si votre appareil audio portable présente des réglages différents pour
le casque et pour LINE OUT, réglez l’appareil audio portable au
même réglage que le casque. Le son peut être déformé s’il est
connecté à LINE OUT.

Insérez correctement l’appareil dans l’allume-cigare jusqu’à
ce que la fréquence s’affiche sur la fenêtre d’affichage de la
fréquence (Voir fig.

Appuyez plusieurs fois sur la touche de fré/– pour
sélectionner la même fréquence que celle réglée sur
l’autoradio.
À chaque pression, la fréquence change par incréments de 0,1 MHz,
passant par cycle entre 88,1 MHz et 107,9 MHz.
Conseils
• Vous pouvez régler l’angle pour que les indications de l’écran soient
bien visibles (Voir fig.

).
• Maintenez la touche de fré/– enfoncée pour changer la
fréquence rapidement.
• À la prochaine mise sous tension de l’appareil, il reste réglé à la
dernière fréquence sélectionnée.

Démarrez la lecture sur l’appareil audio portable.
Remarques
• N’activez pas la fonction d’amplification des graves ou d’égaliseur
sur l’appareil audio portable. Sinon le son risque d’être déformé.
• Réglez la commande du volume de l’appareil audio portable à un
niveau aussi élevé que possible, mais pas au point de déformer le
signal audio. Si le son est encore faible, augmentez le volume sur
l’autoradio.

Faites passer le câble d’antenne à l’intérieur de la voiture
pour améliorer la réception de l’appareil.
L’installation du câble d’antenne diffère selon le type de
votre voiture. Testez l’installation pour trouver la meilleure
position de réception, puis installez le câble d’antenne (voir
fig.
B
).
Remarques
• Faites passer le câble d’antenne près de l’antenne de la voiture. Ceci
peut améliorer la réception de votre appareil.

À propos de l’aimant du câble d’antenne
Le câble d’antenne est fourni avec un aimant fixé à son
extrémité. Il est utilisé pour relier le câble à une partie
métallique du véhicule, comme à la glissière du siège
passager. L’aimant à l’extrémité du câble d’antenne sert à

empêcher qu’elle ne bouge, par exemple lorsque les
passagers entrent dans la voiture ou qu’ils en sortent.
Pour utiliser l’aimant du câble d’antenne, effectuez

Faites passer le câble d’antenne là où la réception de l’appareil est
la meilleure.

Fixez l’aimant à l’extrémité du câble d’antenne sur une partie
métallique du véhicule, sur la glissière du siège passager par
exemple, afin de maintenir le câble d’antenne en place.

Si, à l’étape

, la réception de l’appareil devient mauvaise après
la fixation de l’aimant à l’extrémité du câble d’antenne sur la
glissière du siège passager, etc., revenez à la position précédente
(meilleure réception possible) de l’étape

, sans utiliser l’aimant
(sans le fixer sur la glissière du siège passager, etc.).
Remarques
• Veillez à aligner le câble afin qu’il ne gêne pas la conduite, qu’il ne
se coince pas lors des mouvements des passagers ou qu’il ne soit pas
endommagé lors du réglage des sièges, etc.
• Si l’aimant est fixé à proximité d’objets mobiles, tels que des
portières ou des glissières de sièges, vérifiez que le câble d’antenne
ne se coince pas. Ceci risquerait de provoquer une rupture du câble.
• Ne laissez pas de disquettes, de cartes de crédit personnelles dotés
d’un codage magnétique à proximité de l’aimant du câble d’antenne.
Si la réception de cet appareil décline
Si la réception de cet appareil décline alors qu’elle était bonne au début,
essayez d’appliquer les solutions suivantes, selon les circonstances.
Après l’installation, la réception de cet appareil décline lorsque
vous conduisez.

Dans certains endroits (parc de stationnement souterrain, derrière
de grands bâtiments, etc.), la réception des émissions FM risque
d’être médiocre. Si l’autoradio et cet appareil sont installés dans un
tel endroit, en raison d’une réception des émissions FM médiocre,
la fréquence que vous avez réglée pour cet appareil peut déjà être
occupée. Dans ce cas, la station de l’émission FM occupée est
reçue lorsque ses conditions de réception s’améliorent (alors que
vous conduisez) ce qui provoque des interférences avec la même
fréquence réglée sur cet appareil. Dans ce cas, réglez de nouveau
l’autoradio et cet appareil à une autre fréquence libre dans un
endroit où la réception des émissions FM est meilleure.
La réception de l’appareil s’interrompt pendant que vous
conduisez.

Les conditions de réception des émissions FM varient au fur et à
mesure que vous vous déplacez. Après avoir réglé une fréquence
libre dans un endroit, celle-ci peut être occupée par le signal d’une
station diffusée lorsque vous vous déplacez. En pareil cas, réglez
la fréquence sur l’autoradio et sur cet appareil à une autre
fréquence libre.
Des interférences ou des parasites se produisent.

D’autres émissions FM ou des émissions sans autorisation en ville
peuvent interférer avec la réception de la fréquence définie pour
cet appareil.
Dans ce cas, réglez l’autoradio et cet appareil à une fréquence
moins susceptible d’être perturbée.
Mémorisation de la fréquence sélectionnée
Le réglage par défaut des touches de mémoire est 88,1 MHz.
Sélectionnez une fréquence à l’étape 3 « Installez l’appareil », puis
maintenez l’une des touches de mémoire enfoncée jusqu’à ce que le
numéro de la touche s’affiche dans la fenêtre d’affichage de la fréquence.
Une fois la fréquence souhaitée mémorisée, vous pouvez la sélectionner en
appuyant sur la touche de mémoire.
Remarque
Si une fréquence est déjà mémorisée sur la touche, elle est remplacée par la
nouvelle.
Mise en charge d’un
appareil
Vous pouvez charger un Walkman et un iPod USB rechargeable.
Certains modèles ne peuvent toutefois pas être rechargés avec cet appareil.
Pour connaître ces modèles, reportez-vous à « Modèles USB rechargeables »,
au dernier catalogue ou à la page d’accueil.

Remarque

Branchez l’appareil USB rechargeable à cet appareil à l’aide

Selon votre modèle, l’utilisation d’un câble USB peut être inutile.
Installez l’appareil dans un endroit sûr.

Mettez l’appareil à recharger.
Toutefois, ceci peut s’avérer inutile.

Lorsque la charge est terminée, débranchez cet appareil de
l’appareil USB rechargeable.
Remarques
• Branchez correctement l’appareil dans l’allume-cigare.
• Il est possible que cet appareil ne puisse pas être inséré selon la position
ou la forme de l’allume-cigare.
• Branchez l’appareil de sorte qu’il ne bouge pas en cas de freinage
brusque.
• Veillez à acheminer les câbles correctement de sorte que :
– ils ne gênent pas la conduite ;
– ils ne coincent pas dans des éléments de l’habitacle (sièges, portes,
etc.) ou n’entravent pas les mouvements des passagers ;
– ils ne soient pas endommagés lors du réglage des sièges, provoquant
une rupture du câble ;
– ils soient hors de portée des enfants.
• Installez l’appareil de sorte qu’il n’entrave pas le fonctionnement de
l’airbag en cas d’urgence.
• N’arrachez pas et ne tirez jamais le câble USB raccordé à l’appareil. Ceci
risquerait de provoquer des problèmes de fonctionnement ou une rupture
des câbles.
• N’utilisez pas l’appareil dans un endroit soumis à des projections liquides
ou à l’humidité afin d’éviter tout risque d’incendie ou d’électrocution.
• Le fonctionnement n’est pas garanti si vous utilisez un concentrateur
USB ou un prolongateur USB. Conformez-vous à la méthode de
raccordement adaptée à l’appareil audio portable (Walkman ou iPod).
• Certains appareils ne fonctionnent pas pendant la mise en charge. Pour de
plus amples informations, reportez-vous au mode d’emploi fourni avec
l’appareil.
