Laser reader configuration
The Scanwedge application carries out laser configuration and enables operation of the laser reader by
redirecting the read codes to the active window.
The application that implements Scanwedge to operate is called ‘scand daemon’: this application must be
started by a script wrapper (/sbin/scanwedge) that provides the settings for several environment variables
and starts up scand with the appropriate parameters.
Note:
To disable the automatic start-up of Scanwedge edit the relative line within the file /root/.xinitrc.
Configuration parameters
The Scanwedge configuration file is /etc/scand.conf:
The different codings supported by the reader engine can be enabled or disabled.
Each line preceded by the symbol ‘#' is a comment.
Default configuration is as follows:
#UPC-A=1
#UPC-E=1
#UPC-E1=0
#EAN-8=1
#EAN-8=0
#EAN-13=1
#Code-128=1
Code-128=0
#UCC/EAN-128=1
#Code39=1
#Code39FullASCIIConversion=0
#Interleaved2of5=1
#Codabar=0
#MSI=0
#GS1DataBar-14=0
#GS1DataBarLimited=0
#GS1DataBarExpanded=0
#ConvertGS1DataBartoUPC/EAN=0
Other configuration parameters can be changed from inside the s/sbin/scanwedge script: the scand
programs call (that supports different activatable functions such as the start-up switch) can be found here:
activation of a log; timeout, prefix and suffix settings, and the possibility to read a code substring or to
replace a character within this latter.
All possible start-up switches for scand are summarized below:
-l, --log:
Enable syslogging (default: disabled)
-t, --timeout <ms>:
Set read timeout to <ms> [1000,5000] (default: 1500)
-s, --suffix <hexstring>:
Set suffix to <hexstring> (Ex: 0x0d0x0a)
-b, --begin <idx>:
Report code starting from <idx> (default=0)
-e, --end <idx>:
Report code stopping at <idx> (default=code_length-1)
-r, --replace <C1>=<C2>:
Replace char C1 with C2 (Ex: 0x1d=0x5a)
