Steps for controlling access to devices at startup
Sometimes your z/VM system may have access to devices that you do not want to
be varied online during IPL. For instance, the devices may duplicate labels of
devices used by your production system, or may be in use by other LPARs or
systems. You can specify ranges of devices that z/VM should not vary online
during IPL.
Before you begin:
You need to end CP’s access to the primary parm disk. See
“Steps for releasing the primary parm disk” on page 37.
Perform these steps to control access to devices at startup:
1.
Edit the SYSTEM CONFIG Z file. Type this command and press the Enter key:
xedit system config z
2.
Find the section titled “Status of Devices.” At the XEDIT command line, type
this command and press the Enter key:
